Studio Policies
SAFD enforces certain policies and dress codes to provide an organized, professional and pleasant atmosphere for both dancers and parents. Each level is assigned a different color leotard to differentiate levels with Level V and VI wearing black and intermediate, advanced dancers wearing a tasteful leotard of their choice. Refer to our dress code policies below for your dancers' leotard color as well as requirements for modern, tap, musical theatre and jazz.
If the dancer or parent has any questions regarding these policies or regarding the instruction, please do not hesitate to talk with your instructor.
Hair
All hair must be worn off the neck so the instructor may see the alignment of the neck and spine. No ponytails are allowed in class.
Attendance
All missed classes may be made up in the same level class or a lower level class. The student is encouraged to make up missed classes. There is a one-miss policy in effect for all spring show rehearsals. See performance information for more details.
Tardiness
If the student is over 15 minutes late to the class they must observe the class and schedule a amke up. This will ensure their physical safety, as most injuries are attributed to improper warm-up.
Food & Drink
Absolutely no food, drink, smoking or chewing gum will be allowed inside the building. There is a water fountain for the dancers in the lobby. This policy must be enforced to prevent spills and insects within the building.
Snow Days & Inclement Weather
Classes will be canceled only if roads in West Knoxville are impassable. There will be a recording on the answering machine at the studio giving details about any necessary closings due to the weather conditions. We will also notify you via email.

Age 5

Age 6 & 7
Black camisole, black footless tights for Modern
If they take ballet and modern they need a pair of leggings to pull on over their pink tights. This is if they take ballet and modern back to back.
Ballet I
Light blue short sleeve scoop neck leotard
Convertible pink ballet tights
Pink ballet shoes for girls, black for boys
Black camisole and black tights for modern
Ballet II
Lavender short sleeved scoop neck leotard
Convertible pink ballet tights
Pink ballet shoes for girls, black for boys

Ballet III
Royal blue short sleeved scoop neck leotard

Ballet IV & up
Black leotard, dancer's choice of style. Pink tights required for all ballet classes. Modern, jazz and tap classes may wear black leggings. Ballet skirts are allowed for center work in Level VI - Advanced classes only. Black jazz shoes required for all jazz classes. Call office recommended tap shoe style.
