Each summer SAFD offers classes for dancers of all ages and levels with SAFD faculty and guest teachers from around the country. Additionally, SAFD has brought in well-renowned teachers from around the world including Alicia Graf Mack, Anna Maria Holmes, Frederick Davis, Tracie Stansfield, Joy Davis, Marlayna Locklear, Danah Bella, Takia A. Faniyi, Helen Starr, Valery Lantratov, Dan Joyce, Sergei Chytokov, Joulia Mouiseeva, Daniel Chait and many others.

Dance Master Classes Knoxville

 

Dean and Director of Julliard dance division, Mack lead a distinguished career as a leading dancer of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and Principal Ballerina with Dance Theatre of Harlem. She has also danced with Complexions Contemporary Ballet, and as a guest performer with Alonzo King's LINES Ballet, Beyoncé, John Legend, Andre 3000, and Alicia Keys.

Top Dance School

A faculty member at Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway, Stansfield is known for her ability to blend line and emotion to create a dance experience that is both pure and evocative. Stansfield has taught at various prestigious institutions, including the Joffrey Ballet, Yale University, Amarbailar in Paraguay, TDR Tour in Ixtapa, Encore Dance Camp in Dallas, Peridance and Marymount Manhattan College, among others.

TRACIE STANFIELD

Premier Dance School

Joyce's distinguished dance career began as a company member of Maryland Dance Theater and Concert Dance Company of Boston, leading to his 10-year performance career with the Mark Morris Dance Group. Appearing in over thirty works choreographed by Mark Morris, Joyce then joined George Mason University School of Dance faculty in 1999 and retired in 2022. He has been a popular teacher for numerous regional and national festivals. 

DAN JOYCE

Addison is a freelance choreographer and dancer whose work has upported by various Bay Area organizations including San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, The Garage, and Dance Mission Theater. Her work has been commissioned by Princeton University and Davidson College and presented at the Kennedy Center. She has danced professionally with Robert Moses’ KIN, Lauren Slone, Loren Davidson, and Copious Dance Theatre. 

HARPER ADDISON

Top Dance Instruction Knoxville

Kristina Weimer is from Princeton, New Jersey.  She joined Ballet West II in 2015 and was promoted to the main company in 2017, and then to Demi-Soloist in 2022.  With Ballet West, Kristina has danced leading roles in Smuin’s Romeo + Juliet, LaPlane’s Galantheae, Sklute’s Giselle, Fonte’s Carmina Burana, and the role of Olga in Cranko's Onegin, among many others.

Loomis trained with David and Anna Marie Holmes as well as Margo Marshall, Victoria Vittom and Kirt Hathaway among others. Lynn has worked under seasonal contract with Tennessee Festival Ballet, Berkshire Ballet, San Antonio Ballet and Lexington Ballet. He has appeared as a guest artist to perform Le Corsaire pas de duex and other contemporary works for Berkshire Ballet, Lexington Ballet and San Antonio Ballet.

Anna-Marie Holmes, artistic director of the Ballet Division at Jacob's Pillow, is an internationally acclaimed dance luminary.  Her stagings are in the repertoires of leading ballet companies worldwide, such as American Ballet Theatre and English National Ballet. Holmes is a recipient of the prestigious Dance Magazine Award and an Emmy Award for her staging of Le Corsaire for ABT's PBS Great Performances.

An award-winning choreographer, Bella is the artistic director of d a n a h b e l l a DanceWorks, a founding member of Colectivo Caliban, and the Founding Chair of the Dance Department at Peabody Conservatory. Bella has performed and presented her work at the Cool New York Festival, the United States Asian American Festival, Bates Dance Festival, and the American College Dance Association’s National Dance Festival at the Kennedy Center.

A performer, dance educator, and advocate of West African Dance, Takia A. Faniyi has over 15 years of performance and instructing experience. Faniyi brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and versatility to our dance education. Faniyi's skill and expertise in conjunction with her passionate teaching method has shaped SAFD's students since 2007. Pushing dancers' physicality and endurance, Takia's West African Dance challenges and propels her dancers.

Former Principal Dancer of the London Festival Ballet and Soloist with the Royal Ballet, Starr is a renowned ballet performer and educator. Her partners have included John Gilpin, André Prokovsky, Peter Schaufuss, Peter Martins, Frank Augustyn and Mikhail Baryshnikov with whom she danced La Sonnambula, Petrouchka and the pas de deux from Le Corsaire. Starr has now been with the Louisville Ballet School as a Ballet Mistress for 38 years. 

HELEN STARR

Former principal dancer with Dance Theatre of Harlem, Davis has performed works by George Balanchine, Alvin Ailey, and Ulysses Dove. Performing in national and international tours, Davis danced with Dallas Black Theatre, San Jose Dance Theatre Company, New Jersey Ballet Company, and Connecticut Ballet.  His performance highlights include Arthur Mitchell's DTH Vision Gala dancing with Ashley Murphy, Misty Copeland, and Matthew Prescott.

Locklear is one of the founding members of The Milwaukee Dance Connection and has danced with Eleone Dance Theatre, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble, Dallas Black Dance Theatre II, Owen Cox Dance group, NuWorld Contemporary Danse Theatre, Deeply Rooted Dance Theatre, and Dayton Contemporary Dance Company where she served as the company Jazz and Contemporary instructor as well as Resident Choreographer for DCDC II.

MARLAYNA LOCKLEAR

Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Griswold has danced professionally with the Houston Ballet, Alberta Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Ballett Augsburg and Nationaltheatre Mannheim. His performance repertoire includes works by Itzik Galili, Leo Mujic, Emily Molnar, Christian Spuck, Kevin O’Day, Regina Van Berkel and Alejandro Cerrudo, among many others. Nathan works as a freelance dancer/choreographer, guesting with the Atlanta Ballet.

Lantratov has had a distinguished career as a dancer in many dance companies and international tours. Founder of the Russian National Ballet Foundation, Mr. Lantratov was titled “People’s Artist of Russia," by Russian president Boris Yeltsin, the Russian Federation’s highest artistic honor. His most recent role was Czar Nicholas II in a production of the new ballet Rasputin, with Farouk Ruzimatov of the Marinsky Theater (Kirov).

Having studied at the Boston School of Ballet and at The School of American Ballet in New York, Chait danced with the Washington Ballet in soloist roles by Choo San Goh, Micheal Smuin, Paul Taylor and George Balanchine. In 1986, he joined the American Ballet Theater in New York under the direction of Mikhail Baryshnikov, being promoted to soloist in 1989. Chait then joined the Twyla Tharp Dance Company, dancing soloist roles, later guesting with the Forsythe company.

EMMA MORRISON

Emma began her training at the Franklin School of Performing Arts in Franklin, TN. She began dancing with New Dialect in 2013, and has since worked with, and performed the works of Banning Bouldin, Peter Chu, Alex Ketley, Bryan Arias, Yin Yue, Belinda McGuire, Joy Davis, and Roy Assaf.

Along with being a dancer in New Dialect, Emma has assisted Banning Bouldin in creative processes for Salt Contemporary Dance, Groudworks Dance Theater, Springboard Danse Montreal, and The Julliard School Summer Intensive. She has led masterclasses at Belmont University, Salt Contemporary Dance, New Dialect Summer Intensives, and Groundworks Dance Theater. She is now leading the Contemporary program at Metro Parks Dance in Nashville.

REBECCA STEINBERG

Rebecca is a dancer, choreographer, educator, researcher, and advocate currently based in Nashville, TN. She received her B.F.A. in Dance and her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Rebecca was a freelance artist in New York before joining New Dialect 2015-2021. She is currently a choreographic associate and education liaison for the company. Rebecca is a 2019 Jacob’s Pillow Choreography Fellow and has most recently been commissioned to create new work for Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, And Artists, Room to Room, OZ Arts Nashville, New Dialect, and Nashville Ballet. She is a collaborator alongside visual artist Jana Harper on a multidisciplinary performance and community engagement project titled This Holding.

KIERA FARGAS

Kira Fargas is originally from South San Francisco, CA. Having two professional dancers as parents, she was inspired at a young age to follow in her parents’ footsteps. Kira started her training at the Westlake School for the Performing Arts in Daly City, CA, where she trained intensively for 15 years. In 2014, Kira moved to Tucson, AZ to continue her training at The University of Arizona School of Dance, where she worked with choreographers and teachers such as Guy Shomroni, Yaniv Abraham, Miguel Perez, Amy Ernst, and Tammy Dyke-Compton.

After three years, Kira received her BFA in Dance from the University of Arizona in 2017. Later that year, she moved to Nashville to train with New Dialect as a scholarship student.
